McKelin Area: Patapsco Valley State Park

Patapsco Valley State Park is one of the largest state parks in the Baltimore surrounding area. It extends 32 miles of the Patapsco River. It has 16,000 acres. There are numerous park entrances. The Mckeldin Area is in Eldersburg, MD off Marriottsville Rd. It’s a 30-minute drive from Baltimore City. There is an entrance fee to get inside the state park. Check on the state website https://dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/central/patapsco.aspx. The price can change depending on the day of the week. There is lots of parking. You may even be lucky to park steps away from the waterfall. I often go here to visit the waterfall. Perfect place to get an introduced into hiking. It’s short and not strenuous. If you park Medicine Tree Trail it’s .3 miles. Only a couple minutes and you are at the rapids! Dogs and children are welcomed.
